Description

The SSK005 is part of the highly anticipated GMT expansion of the Seiko 5 Sports line. It adapts the iconic SKX case shape into a functional travel watch. The vibrant orange dial provides high legibility and a playful aesthetic that recalls vintage divers like the orange SKX011, but with modern GMT functionality.

Key Features

First affordable Seiko 5 with a GMT complication; 'Office GMT' functionality; Hardlex bezel insert; iconic 4 o'clock crown; 'Cyclops' magnifier; Jubilee-style bracelet.

Sunray 'Mikan' orange dial (inspired by Japanese oranges). Featuring applied LumiBrite indices with gold-tone borders, a day-date window at 3 o'clock, and a black GMT hand for tracking a second time zone.

316L Stainless Steel with a brushed finish on the lug tops and polished case sides.

Crystal Type

Hardlex crystal (Seiko's proprietary mineral glass) featuring a 'Cyclops' magnifier over the day-date window.

Bezel Details

Bidirectional rotating 24-hour bezel with a friction-fit action. The bezel insert is made of Hardlex (glass-like finish) with a two-tone black and grey split to distinguish day and night hours.

100 Meters (10 bar). Suitable for swimming and snorkeling, but not recommended for professional diving due to the lack of a screw-down crown.

Age Estimate

Circa 2022 to present. This specific GMT line was introduced in July 2022.

Cultural Significance

This model represents the 'democratization' of the GMT complication. It has solidified the Seiko 5 line as the primary successor to the discontinued SKX diver series for a new generation of collectors.

Condition Notes

The watch appears to be in 'Good' to 'Very Good' condition based on the photo. Minor surface scratches are visible on the bracelet and bezel, typical of daily wear. The dial and crystal appear clear.

Value Estimate

MSRP is approximately $475. Secondary market prices typically range from $300 to $375 depending on condition and inclusion of box/papers.

Care & Maintenance

Service every 5-7 years. Although it has a metal bracelet, the push-pull crown requires caution around water. Rinse with fresh water after salt exposure. Keep away from strong magnets.
