Description
The Breitling Navitimer Fighters is a specialized version of the world's most iconic pilot's chronograph. Unlike typical Navitimers that are highly polished and flashy, the 'Fighters' series features a matte brushed finish intended to mirror the rugged instrumentation of WWII fighter planes. It is a COSC-certified chronometer that maintains the legendary circular slide rule used by pilots since 1952.
Key Features
Brushed steel finish (uncommon for Navitimer), 'Fighters' engraved caseback, silver sub-registers, and the absence of the red accents found on some later models.
Dial Description
Silver/Champagne dial with three tone-on-tone subdials at 6, 9, and 12. Applied baton indices, date window at 3 o'clock, and the 'B' Breitling wings logo. Includes a complex internal slide rule scale.
Case Material
Stainless steel (316L) with a distinct all-brushed finish, which is unique for this special edition compared to the standard polished Navitimer.
Crystal Type
Cambered/domed sapphire crystal with double-sided anti-reflective coating.
Bezel Details
Bidirectional rotating slide rule bezel with standard Navitimer 'beaded' edge. The internal logarithmic scale allows pilots to perform air-speed and fuel-consumption calculations.
Crown & Pushers
Push-pull crown (not screw-down, typical for Navitimer) with two pump-style chronograph pushers at 2 and 4 o'clock.
Bracelet or Strap
Stainless steel 'Navitimer' 7-link bracelet with a brushed finish to match the 'Fighters' edition case. Folding clasp with safety flip-lock.
Caseback Details
Solid screw-down caseback featuring special 'Breitling Fighters' engravings and descriptions of the historic aircraft the series honors.
Movement Type
Automatic, Breitling Caliber 13 (based on ETA/Valjoux 7750). Features 25 jewels, 28,800 vph frequency, and approximately 42 hours of power reserve.
Water Resistance
30 Meters (3 ATM). Effectively splash-resistant only. Not suitable for swimming or showering due to the non-screw-down crown and slide rule construction.
Origin & Provenance
Swiss Made; manufactured in Grenchen, Switzerland. Movement is a COSC-certified chronometer.
Age Estimate
Circa 2001-2004 production. This specific reference was produced for a limited duration during the early 2000s.
Cultural Significance
The Navitimer is arguably the most recognizable pilot's watch in history, often cited alongside the Rolex Submariner and Omega Speedmaster as 'must-have' icons for serious collectors.
Condition Notes
The watch appears to be in 'Good' condition. There is notable wear on the bracelet links and some scuffing on the bezel edges. The dial seems clean, but the brushed finish on the case shows some softening from regular use.
Value Estimate
$3,500 - $4,800 USD depending on the presence of the original 'Fighters' box and chronometer certificate. The brushed finish and special caseback add a small premium for collectors.
Care & Maintenance
Service every 5-7 years for the Valjoux 7750 movement. Avoid water completely as Navitimers are notorious for poor water seals. Test gaskets annually if worn regularly.

Interesting Facts
The 'Fighters' edition was named after the Breitling Fighters team, a collection of vintage WWII warbirds (Spitfire, Mustang, Me 109, etc.) that performed at airshows across Europe.
